Our Story

Dave MacDonald is the creator and innovator of our Scoot Boots. He had spent 30 years working with horses and 15 years as a farrier when he developed the world’s first practical hoof boot, the ‘Old Macs’ multi-purpose hoof boot in 1998.

Back in 1998, when the barefoot movement was in its infancy, Dave realised that the majority of shod horses could quite comfortably go barefoot with correct hoof maintenance over time and they could be aided with the use of hoof boots when riding over rough terrain. Once the ‘Old Mac’ came to fruition he then had to convince horse owners that they could actually ride a horse in boots and could be used in most equine disciplines.Since the advent of the ‘Old Mac’ hoof boot many new hoof boot designs have entered the world boot market to cater for the rapidly growing industry of barefoot trimming and booting.
Dave Macdonald and Annette Kaitinis are co-founders and directors of Scoot Boot. Both live in Tasmania, Australia. Dave spent his early life as a jackaroo in Queensland, Australia and then moved to the United States and trained horses and worked on ranches, primarily in Texas and New Mexico. He then trained to be a farrier in the USA and spent 15 years working as a farrier before heading on his barefoot journey.

Annette spent her early life in Tasmania and spent many years competing in showjumping around Tasmania at Royal and Agricultural shows. She left her riding and Tasmania behind to move to mainland Australia for 18 years where she commenced practicing as a lawyer and then later as a barrister. Annette is now back in Tasmania and heads a marketing team promoting Scoot Boot products on the global market.
